This lecture is for advanced course students. Basic information and knowledge on corrosion mechanism and corrosion protection methods are introduced in this lecture. Corrosion phenomenons are basically electrochemical ones and basic knowledge about electrochemistry will be explained first such as electrode, pH-diagram, polarization. Then electrochemical techniques will be introduced for both investigation corrosion mechanisms and evaluation on corrosion resistance of materials. Different types of corrosion will be discussed and finally practical methods for corrosion prevention will be introduced. This lecture is aiming to let students have basic knowledge about corrosion when they design or select materials in their future careers.
