National Institute of Technology, Oyama College was established in Oyama City in 1965, and since then it has developed as a central institution of higher education in the area it is located in and which it serves. A distinguishing feature of our school is to provide students with hands-on, technical education with the aim to graduate practical, creative engineers. We have sent a very large number of capable and competent graduates to take their place in society. Our college offers an Associate Degree Program and an Advanced Course; the former is divided into the four departments of “Mechanical Engineering,” “Innovative Electrical and Electronic Engineering,” “Materials Chemistry and Bioengineering,” and “Architecture,” and the Advanced Course consists of four specialized engineering courses. Our organization and staff are adaptable to sophisticated demanding requirements in the education of the students. In the Associate Degree Program, students graduating from junior high schools learn practical skills as well as they study a wide range of basic knowledge subjects. Through the five-year integrated teaching curriculum, students acquire the mind frame, knowledge, and skills that are necessary to engineers. When finishing the course, they are awarded an associate degree. The graduates are highly sought after in society and the employment rate at graduation is close to 100 %, with an annual job openings-to-applicant ratio of more than 25. Some graduates, do not enter employment but proceed to the 2-year Advanced Course to develop their technical knowledge and skills further, and to gain international experience. Other graduates enter the 3rd grade of engineering departments in four-year national universities. Students who choose to continue studying after finishing the Regular Course account for about fifty percent of all graduates. Students who graduate from the Advanced Course find work or go on further to master courses at graduate schools to develop their research topics further. As described here there is a wide variety of career options available to students studying and graduating from this college, one of the important features of the programs we offer. Our college has the basic philosophy for graduates to “Be an engineer with a sound and proper human attitude,” and it aims to graduate engineers endowed with creativity and the ability to solve problems as well as a wish to act with sensitivity and responsible social attitudes. In recent years, we have made constant improvements in the methods and content of the teaching throughout the entire college. We have also focused on the development of globally competent human resources. Further, we have actively contributed to local industrial development and the surrounding area and region including Oyama and Tochigi Cities by using our Regional Innovation Support Center, which was reorganized in 2017, as a hub for collaborative research and technological support. We will be happy if the readers of this booklet will get to know us better and provide us with continued support.A message from the President:校 長 大 久 保 惠PRESIDENT OKUBO, Satoshi理学博士Doctor of SciencePresident Message校長あいさつ
