　近年、技術革新がめざましいさまざまな産業分野において、物質を分子・原子レベルで精密に制御し、かつ組み立てる技術の必要性が急速に高まってきています。 また、省資源・省エネルギー・環境保全などの技術開発がますます重要になっています。
　 物質工学科では、それらに応えるものとして、新素材・化学製品・バイオ物質が関わるあらゆる分野で将来活躍できるように、 低学年のときから系統的に化学の基礎理論と応用技術を身につけた実践的技術者の育成を行っています。 当学科の特長は、将来の化学技術が高機能性材料とバイオテクノロジーへと発展していくことを考慮して、 高学年の４・５年次は物質（材料化学）と生物（生物工学）の2つのコース別教育を実施し、 これにより少人数での実験・実習を重視した指導を実現しています。

　Recently, in various branches of industry showing a high rate of technological innovation there is an increasing need for new methods to produce a wide range of materials with well controlled atomic or molecular properties. Furthermore the development of technologies for saving both resources and energy and for environmental conservation has become more and more important.
　The Department of Materials Chemistry and Bioengineering provides the knowledge and skills which will enable students to play an active part in the future of all industries related to new materials, chemical products and biomaterials. It's educational program in the early years ranges from the fundamentals of chemistry to their applications. Considering that in the future chemical technology, our department provides fourth and fifth grade students with the two courses of Materials Chemistry and Bioengineering, in which they receive small-group instruction with a focus on laboratory practice.
